Ethiopia – More than 60 people died in Oromia region

61 people have been killed in violence and clashes between Oromo and Somali ethnic groups in Ethiopia’s Oromia region, Hararghe zone according to Oromia’s communication bureau head Ato Addisu Arega.

The clashes begin From December Thursday 14th December 2017 and continued till Sunday 17th December 2017.

According to Ato Addisu’s Facebook post first 29 ethnic Oromos were killed by ethnic Somali attackers in the region’s Hawi Gudina and Daro Lebu districts, of Western Hararghe zone. That violence caused a revenge attack by ethnic Oromos in another district with majority Somali residents. Accordingly, 32 Somalis who were being sheltered in the area in a police station was killed by ethic Oromo attackers.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemarima Desalegn also confirmed the deaths in a statement he made yesterday but didnt quote the causalities.

Both officials said that the government is working to bring the attackers to justice and also to secure lasting peace.
