Zimbabwe’s 93-year-old President Robert Mugabe has finally resigned on Tuesday, 21st Nov 2017, a day after the army and his own political party decided to impeach him.
Zimbabwe’s parliament speaker Jacob Mudenda announced the letter from Mr Mugabe that indicates the decision of resignation was voluntary and that Mugabe had made it to allow a smooth transition of power.
Mugabe has ruled Zimbabwe for 37 years startinng from its independence from UK in 1980.
Mugabe has been facing a deep pressure from Zimbabwe’s army that has put him under house arrest, his own Zanu-PF ruling party, his ministers and people of Zimbabwe for the last week.
People in the capital, Harare, are already celebrating the Mugabe resignation news that was read by the speaker of parliament.
