Oromia regional government owned TV Station, Oromia Broadcasting Network (OBN), reported on Tuesday that “a Tigrayan” was arrested in Adama town Ras Hotel carrying eleven thousand and five hundred US Dollars meant to be transported from Addis Ababa to Ethiopia’s Somali region.
OBN has posted this news in its both Amharic and Oromiffa Facebook pages as follows.
Many Ethiopians has reacted to the news. Many has condemned the quotation of the suspect’s ethnicity in the news.
HornAffairs, a pro-government blog, has called the incident “OBN tv steps up inflamatory rhetoric” yesterday.
Other popular social media users and activist has also condemned the way the report was made. Kiya Kiko, has commented “Reporting the crime was enough. No need of mentioning his bher / ethnic background/.”
