Abadula Gemeda has been a Speaker of the Ethiopian parliament until last Saturday that he confirmed he had submitted a letter of resignation from his position.
“I will explain the reason for my resignation after both the parliament & my party accepted it,” he told to a state television in Sunday.
Abadula has served as Defence minister of the country and President of the Oromia region. Currently he is at the second tenure of his reign as speaker.
President Mulatu Teshome is expected to open the parliament on Monday, October 9 which will most likely pick a successor to Abadula Gemeda. Abadula has confirmed that he will remain as member of his party Oromo People’s Democratic Organisation (OPDO) – a wing of the ruling Ethiopia Peoples Democratic Front (EPRDF) and member of the parliament despite his exit from his position in the parliament as speaker.
