Ethiopia’s prime minister has rejects UN investigation over protest deaths

Ethiopia’s prime minister Hailemariam Desalegn has rejected calls by the UN and EU for independent investigations into the deaths of hundreds of people during months of anti-government protests in Ethiopia’s Amhara and Oromia regions, BBC Reported on Tuesday. The Prime Minister claimed that Ethiopia is able to carry out the investigations by itself.

hailemariam-state-of-emergencyThe government has imposed a state of emergency in response to the protests that was declared by Ethiopian Parliament by 09 October 2016 followed by an unprecedented wave of demonstrations, which began in November 2015.

According to BBC, Hailemariam Desalegn has said an investigation by Ethiopia’s Human Rights Commission, a body created by the constitution, was the only way of dealing with the issue.
