Ethiopia’s parliament on Tuesday declared a two-day national mourning for citizens killed in Gambella region by South Sudanese gunmen from Murle tribe.
During the national mourning period starting on tomorrow, Wednesday April 20th 2016, Ethiopian flag will be flown half-mast throughout the country and in Ethiopian embassies, missions and vessels abroad.
About 182 innocent civilians were killed by a cross-border attack carried out in three woredas of Nuer zone, Gambella regional state.
About 108 children were also abducted by the gunmen.
Ethiopian defense force has been taking measure against the attackers and so far killed 60 gunmen.
Currently, the defense force intensified its operation to free the kidnapped children.
Meanwhile regional organizations have condemned the brutal killings of innocent Ethiopians by the gunmen in Gambella.
A statement from AU said that Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Chairperson of the AU Commission “condemns in the strongest terms the criminal attack carried out by South Sudanese armed elements in the Jakawa area of the Gambella region of Ethiopia, on 15 April 2016, killing 208 people and abducting 102 women and children.”
